Materials used in making springs and how to improve their properties

One of the important things that should be considered in relation to spring design is choosing the right material. In other words, one of the stages of conceptual design is to know the available genders and the limitations of gender selection. Some of the commonly used materials are listed below:

1- hard wire drawn

The cheapest spring steel is cold drawn. In normal mode, it is used for low stresses and static loading. This material is not suitable for temperatures below zero and temperatures above 120 degrees.

2- Wire heated with oil

It is a general purpose, cold drawn, quenched, heat treated spring steel. Anyway, this material is not suitable for fatigue loading or sudden loading at temperatures below zero degrees and temperatures above 180 degrees.
